講堂の天井です。一般的な竿縁天井(さおぶちてんじょう)のように見えますが、よく見ると竿縁の形状が下にいくに従い細くなるように加工しています。このような竿縁を猿頬縁(さるぼおぶち)といい、それを用いた天井を猿頬縁天井といいます。普通の竿縁天井より上等とされています。This is a ceiling part of the lecture hall. It looks seemingly a simple ceiling type such as ‘Saobuchi-tenjo’. However, on closer look, Saobuchi is tapering at the below. This type of ceiling is called ‘Sarubobuchi-tenjo’, and it is high-class grade compared to general type. The literal translation of ‘Sarbobuchi’ is Monkey-Cheek-edge.
